St
Edmunds Riding Club
Affiliated to the British Horse Society
We are a friendly, local riding club based around Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. We are affiliated to the British Horse Society and are involved in activities at all levels for all ages and types of rider. We aim to encourage everyone - horses and riders from novice beginners to the most advanced, from those who ride purely for pleasure to those who want to compete at a National level.
We hold 4 annual shows, take part in Area and National Championships, provide training rallies and workshops, hold social events - and above all have fun !
National Festival of the Horse Eventer Trial Championships - Our Intermediate Eventers Challenge team was Helen Allen on Daisy, me on the Murphy, Lorna Roth and Leigh Isaacs. The ground was quite good but the courses were quite stiff and the team was 8th overall. Our Senior pairs Gail and Caroline were halfway down the class despite having had a stop which shows how many were caught out, and our Junior Pairs were also unplaced but everyone had a good time.
Julia Woods
Houghton Hall International Horse Trials
on Sunday,29th May 2011 - we took a dressage team to this brand new event.
The backdrop to the arena's was absolutely amazing. The most perfect setting.
The build up had been full of various drama's. The team was Julia Woods & Paddy,
Kay Barter & Stumpy, Alice Cutter & Jimbo and Fiona Reddick & Coumroe Floss.
Reserves - Charlotte Grigg & Swan and Amanda Braham & Rio.
The 2 reserves
went lame, Fiona's horse had colic, so Amanda borrowed Scooby of Charlotte
Barter as she was lame but not her horse! Great. All sorted. Kay & Charlotte
very kindly sorted Scooby for me, so we all hoped to leave early. Phone rings
around Castle Acre, ' Hi, It's Kay, I've lost the lorry keys, I did have them
earlier', reply 'Don't panic'!
The miracle to this little story, is, as we
spread our doom on the event. We book in to the secretary, as she is panicking,
as the score sheets have been left behind, aha, to our advantage, giving us time
for Kay to get to us, with 2 horses and herself.
We had the most fabulous day
in the end. The team WON and we were all given lovely rosettes, prize money and
each received an amazing etched glass trophy, now proudly on my mantle piece!
Tim & Fiona worked extremely hard as helpers, as other clubs, did not seem
to understand the wording of 'bring a helper'!!! The Huntingdon & District have
got this off the ground and have worked really hard themselves and a lady from
Carousel was great. Anyhow, first year teething problems, but I hope we can go
again next year.
